Fitting the system
The endpin position was prepared for the output jack, and an access hole was made for the undersaddle pickup lead. The microphone was fitted at the front of the bridge plate in the position specified by the manufacturer.
Internal wiring was retained neatly, the battery bag was mounted on the neck block, and the system’s controls were fitted and checked.
Preserving the playing action
The undersaddle Element measured approximately 0.84 mm in height. The same amount was removed from the saddle base to compensate for the added thickness. After restringing, the guitar returned to approximately its previous action and played well.
Finding the low-output problem
Initial testing showed that the microphone worked correctly, while the original undersaddle pickup produced extremely low output. The findings were discussed with the owner, who arranged a replacement Element.
The replacement was fitted and normal pickup output was restored. The complete system was then checked with both the microphone and undersaddle pickup operating as intended.
Passing on useful aftercare
The string ball ends were close to the internal microphone on this installation. The owner’s report included a specific reminder to guide them carefully into place when restringing, avoiding contact with the microphone.
